Black Friday weekend has concluded. We have survived another one. Barely. Things will only truly calm down around January 12th.
I never really look forward to this time of year. Parking is worse, traffic is worse, a lot of the customers behave worse. To top it all off for this weekend, we were shipped thousands of those stupid Black Friday Weekend Sale Fliers. Shiny, slippery paper ads that we were mandated by corporate to personally hand out to customers. What a waste of time. People are already in the know of what’s going on sale. Emails, posters, plenty of display signs, we have enough stuff communicating what we’re trying to sell to them. Adding a human trying to smile and hand you a useless paper doesn’t really help, in fact it makes it worse. Having seen this first hand, a customer would be handed the sales flier and then not even ten seconds later toss it away. A lot of them wound up on the floor. Slippery paper and carpet are a dangerous mix. A good portion of my shift was spent cleaning up those fliers. I’m looking forward to when this is all over…
