Beulah was a really hard person to deal with. From the outside it felt like she would purposefully not remember simple instructions, or conveniently not know how to answer a phone. Beulah was a person who just wanted to do one specific task over and over again. No job in customer service is like that. There are too many variables to allow that type of precise compartmentalization. The best option was to throw Beulah into the back registers and hope very few people went over there to buy books.
There were instances of multiple managers giving her directions on how to properly display a box and she still wasn’t comprehending it at all.
I’m happy to say that the original Beulah is not with The Bookstore anymore, I am unhappy to say that aspects of Beulah are still manifest in coworkers now.
