The day has finally come. The Nük displays, the kiosks, the huge eyesore, is gone. I hated it from day one and didn’t see why we as a bookstore focused so much on selling a product that everyone sold. Tablets were a thing before the nük, and everyone had smartphones. It was a waste of time and we can all look back now and see that I was right.
A lot of payroll was whizzed down the drain with that whole nük initiative. I don’t mind the product as just a product, at least now, but we really should have been focusing on selling books. People still like books, they don’t tend to need wi-fi connections and firmware updates. I’m sure a lot of people are happy with the nük they bought too. It really wasn’t a product meant for me and I had a tough time getting myself to even try to sell one. Now everyone has some sort of tablet or device so it’s not a big deal anymore. The display has been relegated to a corner of the customer service desks now. It’s more of a distraction than anything that has lasting value and it fits better in that small corner than a huge venue or store front. The nük was never the future of reading. Books are here to stay for a little while longer.
