The best I can say about the book that’s being feature for The Book Club is that people are ambivalent towards it. Some love it, some hate it, and a great majority seem to not even care at all.

The book that should have been chosen is probably Ready Player One. Big movie came out recently, been on the bestseller lists for a long time, it’s a very well known book and has been out for a while now. Love it or hate it, there’s a lot more there that can be discussed. Differences between the novel and the film, what hidden themes were found inside, does it deserve the praise it received? I think there’s a lot of places you could go with it compared to a lot of other books. I haven’t even read it myself, this book club thing could have been a good excuse for me to try it out.
Or how about Crazy Rich Asians? There’s a movie coming out based on the book, it focuses on people that Aren’t White, and has a growing base of fans that come in from time to time to buy more of Kwan’s books.
I’m trying to say that there are a lot of better options for the initial choice of this Book Club.

I don’t think anyone at my store has even signed up for the event. Maybe, if we’re lucky, we’ll get to have all the free coffee and snacks left for us in the break room after anyone fails to show up.
