Yeah, cell-phones are wonderful pieces of technology, but I’d rather not have to deal with serving customers who aren’t giving me their full attention. On the other side, it’s easier to mess with them that way. Some of the best times to practice playing dumb are with these people on phones. Their concentration is split already, they probably won’t remember your name.
On the other hand, throughout the years at the store I’ve heard all sorts of stories about how people weren’t logged off their specific register while other employees used it, people wore someone else’s name tag or would log people out for lunch because they somehow figured out –or were told—the social security number. Whether for convenience or not, I remember the crackdown from above when corporate finally sorted all that stuff out. Different sign in numbers for clocking in and out of work, doors were given better coded locks, security CCTV installed. It’s a whole different store now…
