I’m thinking that when it comes to answering phones, bookstores lucked out with their prerecorded messages. Game Stop on the other hand has so many promotions and weekly deals going on that prerecording something ahead of time is kind of pointless.

A weird memory always comes to mind when I walk into a Game Stop. This was back when the Sega Dreamcast was still alive and kicking (good gracious I love that machine), I walked into the Gamestop across the parking lot from where I work looking for… Ray Man 2 or something… and the guy working the counter there had the strangest lisp. Anything he said took a few seconds to unfold and register in my mind that he was in fact speaking English. He answered the phone a few times while I was sorting through the games on display, it was very difficult near the end to not chuckle at how he spoke. Turns out that the night before he got his tongue pierced.

Another side note: I haven’t purchased anything from a Game Stop since that DS Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks came out. It may have something to do with not getting an employee discount there anymore. The Bookstore used to be connected to that company somehow back in the day and both sides of the workforces, games/books would reap the benefits of the others. A sizable discount off games and the like kept me from saving a lot of money. Somewhere along the lines the companies split and the discounts dwindled, then disappeared. It’s hard to pay full price for games when for many years I didn’t have to…
