Lazy customers, man. They’re the worst. Our job is helping people find and buy stuff, cleaning up after people is required to make sure we can find the books again for other hopefully paying people.
Yes, we’re paid by the other no matter what we’re doing, up to a point. I worked in a couple of stores that closed down. Sales were a big portion of what does and doesn’t keep a store open, and that is a huge can of worms to open up, but moochers don’t help pay the bills is what I’m getting at.
The whole walk-into-a-place-and-I-have-to-buy-something feeling is so deeply ingrained in my psyche that maybe I could have paid off my car by now if I wasn’t trying to help support all the other retail workers out there. If only more people were as thoughtful…
