People have shared cafe stories with me of how poorly they’re treated by customers, the saddest stories are the ones detailing an employee helping a customer find a book earlier, and being treated well, then they cover a break at the cafe and that same customer verbally assaults the employee. There’s no clearer, more depressing line between regular retail work and food service retail work than with a situation like that. It stings even more with the fact that this behavior is taking place in the same store, possibly within 20 to 30 feet of where the customer was helped in locating their erotic romance novel.
